Cinelli -- MA in Illustration, Syracuse University; BFA, The School
of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Lisa Cinelli is a Teaching Artist. She works as a painter, children’s book author/illustrator and instructor. She conducts original hands on workshops throughout the country focusing on one-of-a-kind hand made books and children’s book illustration. Lisa currently teaches Children’s Book Illustration at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She leads teacher workshops and art classes for grades 6-12 through the Marwen Institute, an after school arts based program serving the under served in Chicago. Lisa developed and teaches workshops for high school students in the Chicago Metropolitan Area participating in one of the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Fairchild Challenges. In all of her workshops, at schools, conferences or in her private studio classes, Lisa’s students explore the joy and wonder of incorporating art materials and stories to create books and picture book illustrations.
Workshop Titles: Workshops are adaptable for all ages
and grade levels: Elementary, K-8; Secondary, 9-12; College Level; Professional
Development and Adult Workshops.
1. Book Arts. Let’s Make Books!!! Create
one-of-a-kind handmade books. Experiment with a variety of bookmaking
examples and fill them with words and pictures.
2. Collaged Accordion Books: Which comes first,
the words or the pictures? Using poetry exercises and mixed media, students
of all ages enjoy creating three dimensional accordion books.
3. Teaching Materials and Techniques in Children’s
Book Illustration: Participants investigate the connection of
words and pictures on a page to the stories told in a picture book. Hands
on workshops explore art materials and techniques used in Children's Book
Illustration.
